Objective：Meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the effect of acupuncture combined with Traditional Chinese medicine （TCM） in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy（DR）. Methods：Studies on the effect of combination treatment in DR in PubMed，Embase，Web of Science，Cochrane Library，CNKI，WanFang and SinoMed database were systematically reviewed and included.The data analysis was performed using Stata software. Results：A total of 10 studies were included. Compared with other treatment，the combination treatment significantly improved the overall effective rate（ RR=1.21，95%CI between 1.13 to 1.30），visual acuity level（ WMD=0.18，95%CI between 0.11 to 0.25），macular thickness （WMD=-32.25，95%CI between -48.94 to -15.56），and visual acuity （WMD=2.92，95%CI between 2.57 to 3.27）. Compared with the control group，the difference was statistically significant （P<0.01）. Conclusion：Acupuncture combined with Chinese Herb in the treatment of DR can improve the visual acuity and visual acuity，reduce the thickness of the macula，which slows down disease progression and improve the symptoms of patients.
