Epilepsy is a chronic nervous system disease characterized by repeated occurrence caused by abnormal discharge of neurons in the brain. It has the characteristics of repeatability，unpredictability and unprovoked attacks. Traditional Chinese medicine has been paid more and more attention because of its stable curative effect and small side effects in the treatment of epilepsy. In this paper，we reviewed the mechanisms of several traditional Chinese medicines in treating epilepsy for further autiepileptic drug development.
