This review focuses on peroxynitrite (ONOO-)–mediated nitrosative stress signaling, which is closely associated with endothelial cell injury, cerebral edema and neurovascular damage that disrupt microvascular integrity in stroke. Growing evidence indicates that targeting nitrosative stress may be an important strategy to prevent the vascular complications associated with stroke.
