Progress on Research of 5-Lipoxygenase in Alzheimer’s Disease%0 Journal Article %D 2016 %J ACTA NEUROPHARMACOLOGICA %R 10.3969/j.issn.2095-1396.2016.05.006 %P 39-44 %V 6 %N 5 %U {http://actanp.hebeinu.edu.cn/CN/abstract/article_333.shtml} %8 2016-10-26 %X 5-lipoxygenase plays a key role in catalyzing the conversion of arachidonic acid （AA） to 5-hydroperoxy-6，8，11，14-eicosatetraenoic acid （5-HPETE），which can then be metabolized into different leukotrienes （LTs）. The recently studies have shown that 5-lipoxygenase is involved in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer’s disease. Inhibition of 5-lipoxygenase decreases amyloid β peptide （Aβ） and tau hyperphosphorylation，mitigates neuroinflammation，regulates synaptic function and ameliorates cognitive disorders in Alzheimer’s disease. In this review，we will summarize studies of 5-lipoxygenase in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis.
