Increasing studies have showed that chronic stress activates peripheral and central immune systems accompanied with the release of cytokines（including proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines），which play a significant role in the pathogenesis of depression. The objective of this review is to discuss the underlying mechanisms between cytokines （including proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines） and depressive disorders.
