Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, characterized in the brain by amyloid plaque deposits, neurofibrillary tangles and neuronal loss. In recent years, evidence indicates that adult hippocampal neurogenesis provides new opportunities for the treatment for AD. Here we review recent progress on the relationship between adult hippocampal neurogenesis and AD.
